The award recognizes individuals whose accumulated work has had a particularly significant impact on the present state of the physical, biological, mathematical, engineering or social and behavioral sciences. The Medal also recognizes research that is deemed likely to strongly influence the future development of scientific thought. Distinguished service to the advancement of science generally, when accompanied by substantial contributions to the content of science, also is considered. |
